He did it! Without a major label deal, a big cosign, or the benefit of a single being played all over the radio, Pittsburgh rapper Mac Miller sold more than 140,000 copies of his debut album, Blue Slide Park, after one week. We can't say we're particularly surprised—you did see our "10 Biggest Moments of Mac Miller's Year" list last week, right?—but it's still pretty unbelievable to us that in this economy, with almost no help from anyone but his Rostrum Records team, Mac was able to land at the top of the Billboard charts.
So, what did we learn here? Well, a lot. But, more importantly, Mac Miller just wrote the book on what new artists need to do in order to achieve the type of success that he's enjoying right now.
