Get To Know: Yohon Trotter

Up and coming Atlanta artist Yohon Trotter brings so much more than rap to the table.  Founder and CEO of his own label, Born Leader Records, artist, entertainer, philanthropist and community activist, Yohon Trotter is creating a brand that far exceeds the expected.  With a few years in the game as an underground artist, Yohon Trotter knows there’s much more to life and much more to the game than simply writing rhymes, and pushing singles.
With a firm start in the industry under the guidance of Hard Nodd Records  to the creation of his own label, Born Leader Records,  in 2007, Yohon continues to grow, expand his brand and build upon the knowledge and experience that years in the game of both music and life bring.
Given Atlanta’s close knit circle of industry insiders and movers and shakers it’s no surprise that Yohon Trotter is quite familiar with numerous rising stars of today’s hip hop.  What might surprise you is the drive, determination and diversity this artist displays WITHOUT relying on those “friends in high places”.  He has chosen to stay true to himself and true to his vision of creating an independent label with far more than the  immediate gratification of stardom as it’s goal.
A product of a rough childhood, deeply affected by an absent drug-addicted parent, frequent moves and school changes he certainly can identify with hard knocks and a street education, which is reflected in his music, but somehow he managed to turn that past into the motivation to lend a brighter future to young people in his own neighborhood.  Yohon Trotter divides his time between running his label, handling his own publicity and media, as well as creating great music but most important to him are his philanthropic endeavors. Working with area youths in sports programs such as the Boys & Girls Club of Atlanta , coaching, and community based events and fundraisers, Yohon Trotter is making his mark not only with his music but with his hands-on efforts to bring a positive influence into the lives of young people.
Yohon’s music reflects exactly who he is and has been as a person, he has no shame in telling an honest story about the mean streets and the trickle down effects of poverty, single parenthood, drugs, alcohol, crime & punishment and death while highlighting his other side, the fun loving, clubbin’ party-goer and don’t forget he has a lil’ something to offer the ladies as well.  With projects like his upcoming “Trap Sex” you get a combination of  street-reality tracks to ride to, a few club bangers to dance to and a little bit of mood music.  Endorsed by greats like Cee Lo (Gnarls Barkley), Yohon Trotter is most certainly making his entrance as a well rounded, versatile artist with a little something extra.  Something real that’s been missing from hip hop for a minute now.
Look for collabs with some of the hottest up and coming talent from across the globe, and established artists such as Stuey Rock featured on the hit single “Put It On Me”, new projects with DJ Hershey and DJ Pretty Boy Tank among others and the upcoming mixtape series “The Gas Leak”.  Watch out for Yohon Trotter in the coming months as he explodes onto the scene.
